MEANING MAKING MACHINES (MMM)
The MMM is a personalisation device that translates user’s preferences into a bespoke object. It’s an ongoing research project seeking for design methodologies centred in creating meaningful objects using user’s preferences.
Engineering meaning opens the possibility for the “hyper-personalisation” of products, services and systems that address problems that go beyond conventional functionality by tackling emotional and existential needs. Countless efforts have been made in design-related disciplines to decode the principles of form, function and composition giving place to practical, yet subjective sets of rules and principles. This model assumes that to successfully engineer meaning an equivalent set of “meaning-making principles” are required.
